Iron Infusions with Dr Paula Hade
Iron infusions are a safe and effective treatment option for patients suffering from iron deficiency or anemia, especially when oral iron supplements are not well-tolerated or effective. Dr. Paula Hade provides professional iron infusion treatments in a comfortable setting, helping to quickly restore iron levels and improve symptoms such as fatigue and weakness.
An iron infusion involves delivering iron directly into the bloodstream through an intravenous (IV) drip. This allows for faster absorption of iron compared to oral supplements, making it ideal for those who need immediate replenishment or who cannot absorb enough iron through their digestive system.
Dr. Paula Hade may recommend an iron infusion if you have:
-
Iron deficiency anemia: A condition where there is not enough iron in your body to produce healthy red blood cells.
-
Chronic blood loss: From heavy menstrual bleeding or gastrointestinal conditions like ulcers.
-
Difficulty absorbing iron: Conditions like celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, or post-bariatric surgery can interfere with iron absorption.
-
Side effects from oral iron: Some people cannot tolerate oral iron supplements due to gastrointestinal side effects like nausea, constipation, or stomach upset.

The infusion process
Post Infusion Care
Dr. Hade will review your medical history, discuss your symptoms, and perform tests (such as blood tests) to confirm the need for an iron infusion. She will also answer any questions you may have about the procedure.
-
Preparation: You will be seated in a comfortable chair, and an IV line will be placed in your arm or hand.
-
Iron Infusion: The iron is slowly administered through the IV over the course of 30-60 minutes, depending on the dosage required. Dr. Hade and her staff will closely monitor you during the infusion for any side effects.
After the infusion, you can resume most normal activities immediately unless advised otherwise. Some patients experience relief from symptoms like fatigue within days, while others may notice gradual improvement over a few weeks as iron levels stabilise.
While iron infusions are generally safe, mild side effects may occur, such as:
-
Headaches
-
Nausea or dizziness
-
Temporary changes in taste
-
Muscle or joint pain
-
Bruising or discomfort at the IV site
Rarely, more serious side effects such as allergic reactions or low blood pressure may occur. Dr. Paula Hade and her team will monitor you throughout the infusion and are prepared to manage any adverse reactions immediately.
