Implanon Insertion + Removal  with Dr Paula Hade

The Implanon contraceptive procedure is a quick and effective method of long-term birth control, and Dr. Paula Hade is a trusted provider of this option for her patients. Implanon is a small, flexible rod that is inserted just under the skin of the upper arm, releasing a hormone called etonogestrel to prevent pregnancy for up to three years.

Dr. Hade is known for her caring and thoughtful approach, ensuring that her patients feel comfortable and well-informed before, during, and after the procedure. She takes the time to explain how Implanon works, its benefits, and any potential side effects, so you can make a decision that’s right for your body and lifestyle.

Steps for Implanon Procedure

Initial Consultation

Preparing for the Insertion

Aftercare

Before the insertion, you will have a consultation with Dr. Hade to discuss your health history, any previous use of hormonal birth control, and whether Implanon is a good fit for you. Dr. Hade will explain how Implanon works and how it compares to other contraceptive options. She’ll also go over:

  • The effectiveness (over 99% at preventing pregnancy)

  • Common side effects (such as changes in menstrual bleeding)

  • The fact that it can be easily removed if you decide you no longer want it or if you're planning to get pregnant

  • The actual insertion is quick and performed in Dr. Hade’s clinic. Here’s what to expect:

  • Numbing the area: A local anesthetic is used to numb a small spot on your upper arm, so you won’t feel pain during the procedure.

  • Inserting the implant: Using a special applicator, Dr. Hade will insert the small Implanon rod just under the skin. This only takes a few minutes and is relatively painless due to the numbing agent.

After the implant is inserted:

  • Immediate effectiveness: If inserted during the first 5 days of your menstrual cycle, Implanon is effective right away. Otherwise, you may need to use backup contraception (like condoms) for the first 7 days.

  • Monitoring: Dr. Hade may schedule a follow-up appointment to check the insertion site and ensure everything is healing well. You can contact her if you experience any unusual side effects or have concerns.

At the end of three years (or earlier if desired), the Implanon rod can be easily removed. The removal process is similar to insertion: Dr. Hade numbs the area, makes a small incision, and gently removes the implant. If you want to continue using Implanon, a new implant can be inserted at the same time.
